Latest News From The Rossford Firefighters       


August 2008- We would like to pass along congratulations to FF/Paramedic Andrew Vascik and his wife Mindy on the birth of their first child Mason Andrew. Everyone is home and doing well !

August 2008-Recent training had members assisting the Rossford Schools Sports Medicine Staff (doing something we try to do annually) with our Emergency Medical Resident Physcian on football/sports injuries and helmet removal and spinal immobilization procedures for the upcoming fall season. Seen in this photo is Lt. Woycitzky showing them how it's done.


August 2008-Crews responded to another rollover injury accident where the restrained occupants were "saved by the belt" resulting in only minor injuries. This accident was witnessed by a St. Vincent Mercy MobileLife unit who stopped to render aid while crews were responding. Also seen in these photos are our Auto-Aid partners from Northwood Sta. #1. August 2008- The Rossford Fire and Rescue Department along with the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department, Northwood Fire and other public safety agencies for the annual OCC/ST. Vincent's ER Docs Residents Day. This is where physicians in training get a taste of the "real life" rescuers face daily. The Rossford Fire & Rescue Department wishes to thank Larry's Auto Center for the cars used in this exercise, we appreciate your continued cooperation to make us the best fire department in the region. 


August 2008-Crews respond to something they haven't had to in awhile, an over turned semi near the Ohio Turnpike. The driver sustained minor injuries and the vehicle had no hazardous materials. Units remained on the scene for hours assisting with traffic and up righting of the semi. For additional pictures click here.


August 2008- Crews respond to an over turned vehicle in a residential neighborhood. Upon arrival found a single occupant trapped needing extrication. The patient was transported to a local trauma center for evaluation. Crews were out approximately one hour. Automatic Aid was sent from Northwood #1. For action shots of this incident click here.

August 2008-The Rossford Fire and Rescue Department would like to thank all the teams that participated in the NOVFA Softball Tournament. Taking first place was Green Springs Fire and second place winner, Gibsonburg Fire both from Sandusky County, Ohio. For photos click here.

 The Rossford Fire & Rescue Department is proud to announce a free smoke detector program. Using donated funds from the Fraternal Order of Eagles Rossford Aerie  #2322 the department was able to purchase 350 smoke detectors. If you need a smoke detector stop by the station from 8a-4p any day of the week. If you are unable to get to the station please call the Chief's office @ 419 666 0210 extension #30.

June 2008- Hot time for summer fire safety, Safety Town 2008. Crews assisted in this annual event for the incoming kindergarten class, as they have for over the past 30 years. The kids realize how "cool" it can be to be safe ! For additional pictures click here.


June 2008-Trauma on the Turnpike-Northwood and Rossford crews responded to the Ohio Turnpike for a single car accident with two patients. Both patients were transported with minor injuries to a local hospital. For scene photos click here.

June 2008- A short burst of mother nature caused alot of damage with no injuries as crews scrambled from call to call to call. Seen here is the aftermath on the morning after during daylight hours. For additional photos click here.

April 2008- By order of the Governor Ted Strickland, and to honor the departed, the City of Rossford lowered it's flags to half-staff in remembrance of Captain Robin Broxterman and Firefighter Brian Schira of the Colerain Twp. FD, Hamilton County Ohio who lost their lives in the line of duty, last Friday, April 4th, 2008. May they rest in peace for more information click here.


April 2008- Rossford and Northwood crews responded to the Home Depot for a trash compactor on fire attached to the building. Upon arrival smoke was showing and there was concern the fire was in the building. After further assessment the fire was contained to only the compactor and did not get into the container or the store itself. For additional pictures click here.


April 2008- RFRD Past Explorer Captain Jacob "Jake" Hoffman recently completed his Eagle Scout project. Jake solicited donations of stuffed animals for local area departments to give to the sick and injured children we are called upon to care for.
