Since 1922, Fire Prevention Week (FPW) has been observed on the Sunday through Saturday period in which October 9 falls to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The theme of the 2018 campaign is “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere."

In our continuing fire awarness and prevention videos this one focuses on sprinkler systems. While more common in commercial locations there are some in homes. I hope you have enjoyed the videos this week,
Yesterday, HCFMO investigators were requested to assist Cypress Creek Fire Department / Harris County ESD 13 with a fire at a restaurant in the 21500 block of SH 249. Investigators were able to obtain video from the fire, and there are a couple of lessons learned:
1. NEVER throw ice or water on a grease fire.
2. Fire sprinklers save lives. The fire sprinkler system activated (one sprinkler head) controlling the fire until the fire department arrived on the scene. #fastestwater
The fire was ruled accidental. There were no injuries reported.

In our continuing video series of fire awareness and prevention during National Fire Prevention Week here is another piece from 2020.
“CLOSE BEFORE YOU DOZE”
The Sister Bay & Liberty Grove Fire Department would like to thank our mutual aid partners for there assistance last night.
We would like to also thank all of the residents and neighbors affected by this fire for their cooperation and understanding in what is a difficult situation for all of them.
We have been fortunate to be given permission to share with you a video that clearly shows the value of sleeping with your doors closed. The phrase to remember is “Close before you doze”
